Isaiah 1:12-15
--TheSecretPlace--
As I meditate on these verses, I think about how so many people come to church, and conferences, and are 'devoted Christians' only on Sundays, and Wednesdays, and 'passionately pursue the LORD' for like 2 weeks after a conference, and then fall back into the "norm" of life, and to business as usual.
As I was thinking about all of this, I just thought about how Jesus really hates that pattern of life.... Why? Because it is being LUKEWARM.
Yes, it is very easy to follow God when everyone else is, but what happens when you get home? and the computer, and the T.V. are on, and the phone is just sitting there... waiting to be used, and problems with your family begin to test you, and your relationship with God. What happens when you get to work, and everything that can go wrong, goes wrong? Since those things seem to always happen, does that mean you need to handle those situations the way you did before your walk with the LORD, and get frustrated, OR should you prayerfully respond in such a way as to bless God?
-Lukewarm-ness-
As I said earlier, Jesus hates lukewarmness--So what exactly is that? What does it mean to be lukewarm?
I see it as playing the fence. It is being half-hearted-not fully giving yourself to God, and not fully giving yourself to the desires of your flesh. Lukewarmness IS half hearted-ness, and the truth is, is that Jesus does hate it, because He wants all of us-yes- but He makes it clear in the Word, that He would rather us say no to Him, than actually be lukewarm.(Revelation 3:15-16)
That is really intense. In Isaiah 1, I believe Jesus also makes this very point obvious as well, and it points out what God IS looking for, and what God IS NOT looking for... and we will take this on one at a time.
1)What God is NOT looking for:
As I said earlier God is not looking for an up and down relationship that is lukewarm, because when a person remains lukewarm, they remain one who is only interested in playing games. There is no true fascination for Gods love in them. The LORD will end up at the end of the age casting the lukewarm into the lake of fire, but I am praying that those who are now lukewarm would turn all of their hearts to God.
2)What God is looking for: LOVE that is WHOLEHEARTED.
How are we to be what God is looking for? He is looking for friendship with His us, and the truth is that a 2-week spiritual hype, or a twice a week relationship with Him is not a strong friendship AT ALL. So that is not the answer... So how do we conquer this?
We have to surrender one thing to obtain friendship with Jesus, and that is DEVOTION because devotion is stronger than passion, and when it is hard and when it is easy your devotion stands true, and that is what the people of God need towards God Himself.
Jesus is looking for our love, and devotion.
So let's not give Him heartless burnt offerings, but lets give him our LOVE offerings.(Psalm 103)
