Putting my hands back to the clay
Friday, August 28, 2009
From the desk of Lou Engle:
Friends,
Recently, I sent out an urgent call to prayer concerning the healthcare bill. I received some constructive feedback challenging me to look at the situation of the poor and those who cannot afford healthcare. I want to clarify that I believe there must healthcare reform. As believers, we need to identify deeply with the agonizing injustice that the poor, and those dealing with overwhelming medical situations face everyday as they encounter the exorbitant cost of healthcare in it's present form.

God Has a Better Way.
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As you may know, three years ago, I sent my son and several young people to San Francisco to pray that the love of God would be poured out on the homosexual community in the Castro district. For three years they wept, worshiped and witnessed in the Castro. Then the Prop8 contention arose. I found myself in the great challenge to represent Christ's love to the homosexual and at the same time stand against deception and the homosexual agenda that is threatening to mainstream destructive lifestyles and laws into the veins of American life and culture. Jesus modeled the proper posture and was described by the Apostle John as full of grace and truth. We must be filled with the love, compassion and mercy of Christ when ministering to the homosexual, but we must recognize the spiritual darkness behind the homosexual agenda and confront it with massive intense fasting and prayer.
Five years ago we launched a prayer movement that became Bound4LIFE and is now multiplying across the nation contending against abortion and praying for adoption. It is time to raise up a nation wide prayer movement now to stand in the gap crying to God to restrain the homosexual ideology that is hostile to biblical ways and the freedoms we have been able to live in and enjoy in the 233 years of our American history. Even now in certain places christian schools are being pressed to teach pro-homosexual curriculum. Pending hate crime bills will make it extremely difficult for people simply to speak truth on this subject in the public square. In Massachusetts we are very near the point where pastors will not be able to preach biblical truth without punitive measures being taken against them.
In Charlotte, North Carolina, a great stand of truth with compassion is now being made through the church that is actually turning the tide of the homosexual agenda there. Dr. Michael Brown, well known as a catalyst in the revival in Brownsville, is spearheading this movement, speaking with clarity the biblical understanding of the homosexuality, but also ministering and witnessing in love to the community.
This past weekend we called for a 21-day season of fasting and prayer in Charlotte and in Atlanta declaring we must win the battle against spiritual unseen powers if we are going to see freedom for the homosexual and the restraining of the ideology. 40 years ago the Stonewall Riots of New York City, marked the beginning of the homosexual revolution. 40 years later we are coming to the ripening and legal empowering of the movement. Apart from God there is no way of turning this back. We are headed the way of many European nations, but I believe the Lord wants to raise up a "Stonewall" of intercession, a prayer stand if you will, expressed in Ezekiel 22:30 "I looked for a man to stand in the gap to build up a wall before me ...".
In Charlotte, and on this 21-day season of fasting, we are seeking to begin to build that wall of prayer. After my time in Charlotte I came home and watched that movie, Facing the Giants with my children. I was stunned at the last part of the movie when the Richmond Giants are on the one yard line ready to score. The opposing coach shouts to his team who have been experiencing spiritual revival, "Build me a stonewall!" The team stops the giants from scoring on four downs and then in amazing turnaround score themselves. I felt the Holy Spirit speak to me "Build me a Stonewall of intercession that could hold back this giant rumbling across America."
On July 25th, the 21st day of the fast, we are calling those whose hearts stir them from around the nation, to come join Dr. Michael Brown for a day of intercession and public sensitive witness on Charlotte's gay pride day. Our desire is that God would raise up a house of prayer to contend there against the spiritual powers behind the ideology and to contend for an outpouring of the delivering power of Jesus that can set the homosexual, the transgender, and the porn addict free. Come take your stand with our brothers and sisters in Charlotte and cry out to God for a great mercy to sweep over America.

Be Encouraged.
I have been brought through a rough season where I have just basically not pursued the LORD like He has called me to, and the deal is not that I have stopped pursuing Him at all because I have, but I have not been pushing to reach my full potential like I was, and the LORD convicted me about this. So I have been seeking the LORD's will for how He wants me to pursue Him, and He keeps on directing me to the same place, and it is the same place He wants all of His people to get to, and that is the place of prayer. I have realized that cultivating a lifestyle of prayer, crying out to the LORD is the most difficult thing anyone could ever do, and though that may be the case, I believe, it is the most desired thing of the Father. He wants a people who give themselves to Him. He wants His people to be wholly His, and He wants to know if we will give ourselves to Him in the way He wants us to give ourselves to Him-no matter what- He is longing, and waiting for a bride who will take her stand before Him, crying out for Him to come. I read today Isaiah 51:4(ESV)
"Give attention to Me, My people, and give ear to Me, My nation; for a law will go out from Me, and I will set My justice for a light to the peoples."
Jesus wants our attention. God wants YOUR ATTENTION! It is so easy to be a Christian, and not give the LORD your attention. When I was little I would go to church with my family, and to places where I had to be quiet, and that is really hard for children-to be quiet, and completely still- well basically I was in a meeting whether it was church or something else that my mom would take me to, and I would be in the meeting, completely quiet(a lot of the time), but I would fall asleep, and give NO ATTENTION to the speaker. I was in the room fully, but what good were the words of the man speaking if I didn't care or give any attention to what he was saying. Here is the deal with God though, He wants us in His presence, and when we get there, He wants us to give Him our attention, and not only in the secret place, but He wants our attention all the time. He wants us to cultivate a lifestyle of PRAYER. He wants us in the secret place, where it is just you and God, and He wants us in the place of prayer, practicing His presence, giving our attention to Him all the time, and this looks different for different people, but it also looks the same. I have found that, yes, this journey is hard, but every step of the way we are getting closer to the LORD's heart, and He loves that. The fact that lifestyles of prayer pleases the Father needs to be enough for us to just do it, and go all the way.
The point I want to make right now is simply that the rewards of sowing deeply into this lifestyle of prayer are everlasting, and worth some struggle. The LORD sees you where you are in your closet, and He loves to bless you! So please be encouraged, and I pray that the eyes of your heart would be enlightened in the knowledge of God.
He is worthy of what you are doing in secret for Him. Thank you for going after Him. I pray that you would continue on! Even when it gets hard press in, and even if you don't see any results press in, and even if you don't feel any different, I want to impel you to believe that you are storing up treasures in heaven. Praise the LORD!!
Be blessed!

The LORD is Always Good.
7 The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts.
8 He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor."For the foundations of the earth are the LORD's; upon them he has set the world.

His Ways Are Not Our Ways,
4 "The bows of the warriors are broken,
but those who stumbled are armed with strength.
5 Those who were full hire themselves out for food,
but those who were hungry hunger no more.
She who was barren has borne seven children,
but she who has had many sons pines away.
This scripture really just give us a picture of how Gods ways are not our ways, and about how God doesn't look at the things man looks at. He looks at the broken, and the weak, and heals them and gives them strength. He looks at the barren, and the hungry, and fulfills their deepest hunger, and makes them fruitful. He takes what is old, and bad, and makes it good, and new. This is true for me in my life. I am at my core a broken, and weak person, and I can bear fruit in no way, meaning I can't make stuff happen-unless the LORD helps me. The LORD is my source. HE is our source. He doesn't look at the strong, because honestly there are no truly 'strong' people, only weak and broken people, the LORD just uses those who realize their weakness, and offer it up to the LORD, and He uses it for our good, and the good of others even.
At the end of the age the LORD is going to turn the tide on Satan, and all of the people who are in the world's eyes strong and wise, and the LORD is going to humble them, and bring them down low, and He will be exalted, and His people are going to be all good with that because we will realize that HE ALONE is the ONLY ONE who is worthy of praise, and recognition from men.
Those who turn to the LORD, and lift up to Him their brokenness, He will heal. Those who are weak, He will arm with strength. Those who are hungry, He will fill, and Those who are barren, He will make fruitful.
I believe this applies to every single person, except God Himself. We need to realize that we are weak, and broken, and have nothing to offer but our weakness, and brokenness, but that it the beauty of what the LORD is offering, because He knows how we are. He knows that we are weak, and broken, but He loves us anyways! He loves us just the way we are!! That is so glorious. So Wonderful, and I just want to encourage you to lift up all that you are to the LORD, because He is the only one who can help you overcome any problem you face, and that is more important than we know.
---Intercession---
Jesus, I just want to thank You for how You use our weaknesses, and our brokenness for Your good. Thank You for offering to us Your way, and Your will for our lives, and I just pray that even though things don't always go our way You still work on our behalf for our good, and You love us more than we know. Thank You Jesus. In Jesus Name. Amen.
